Colors and Patterns with Brown Bear

This week we learned about the letters Rr, Ss, and Tt.  We read the book "A Rainbow of my Own" and made rainbows using markers and cotton balls.  We read "Silly Sally" by Audrey Wood and made a book for our book boxes.

For the letter Tt, we made tool belts and added "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to our Nursery Rhyme books.

In math we began our unit on patterns.  We did a lot of fun mimio activities!

We also used red and blue bears to make patterns.  We made AB, AAB, and ABB patterns.

Our theme this week was based on "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?"  by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle.  It is a great book for learning colors and color words.  We did a lot of fun activities based on the book.  One of them was a gobstopper color experiment.  We wanted to see what would happen in we put a gobstopper in a cup of water.  We predicted that the water would change color.  We tested it out and found out that not only did the water change color, but the gobstopper changed as well.  In fact, it had layers of different colors.  We left them to soak for awhile and they eventually lost all their color and turned white.  It was really neat to watch!

This week for show and tell, Avery W. shared a neat keychain her sister gave her.

Avery S. shared a birds nest she found.

And Isabella shared a fossil with us.

Next week we learn about the letters Uu, Vv, Ww, and Xx.  We will continue working with patterns in math and our theme will be "Pete the Cat"!  I can't wait!
