Snowmen and a Snowball Fight!

Our theme for this past week was Snowmen!  Even though we were having 70 degree weather outside, we still had a blast!
We used a tree map to organize everything we knew about snowmen.  We used this to help us write later on.

We also made a brace map to show the different parts of a snowman.

We wrote about how to build a snowman in four easy steps.

We read the book "Snowmen at Night" and brainstormed other things that snowmen could do at night.

Then we wrote about what our snowmen would do at night and made a torn paper snowman to go along with it.

This one says "My snowman like to go to Florida at night."  :)

This one says "My snowman likes to go dancing and ice skating at night."

In math, we have been working on counting to 100 by tens.  We played a snowman puzzle game to practice this skill.

We have also been working on comparing weight, capacity, and length.  We have done several fun mimio activities to practice this.

On Friday, we concluded our week by having a snowball fight with Mrs. Ward's class!  It was so much fun!  Everyone started out with two "snowballs".  We set a timer and they had to throw the snowballs back and forth until the timer went off.  Then we counted up the number of snowballs on each side and found that number.  We decided who had more and who had less.  Mrs. Ward's class won the first round and we won the second.  It was a blast!!  Who needs snow to have fun!?!

Next week we will begin our study of Polar Animals! Have a great week!  :)

Hibernation, Migration, and Adaption...Oh My!

I am sorry that I have been behind with our blog posts!  I have had a hard time getting back on the swing of it since break!  The week before last we learned about hibernation, migration, and adaptation.
We made bird feeders for the birds.  We took toilet paper rolls, added soy butter, and then rolled it through the seed.

On Friday, we concluded our week by having our first annual  Hibernation Day!  It was a hit!  The kids wore their pajamas and we made caves out of sheets.  We only hibernated about four minutes before the giggles and fake snores took over.  :)

After we woke up from our hibernation, we moved very slowly because we didn't have much energy.  We sniffed around for our snack, ate it, and had tons more energy!!

After we ate our snack, we were energized and ready for a craft.  Everyone brought a hibernating animal to school with them, so we made them some caves that they could hibernate in.

During shared reading this week, we did a Jan Brett author study.  We read her books, "The Mitten" and "The Hat" and compared them.  We also read another version of "The Mitten" and compared it to Jan Brett's.

We also graphed our favorite characters from "The Mitten".  The bear won with six votes.

Polar Express Day!

Here are a few pictures from our Polar Express Day back before break!

We got a special package from the North Pole.  It had silver bells in it and they were still cold!! Wow!
