Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

Our theme for the week was centered around the book, "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom".  It is definitely our new favorite book! We read the book, sang the song, and even made a class book!  We also did some fun coconut activities.

We did a sink or float experiment.  We made predictions on the mimio and then tested it out.

After we did the coconut, we tried other things from around our classroom.

We also did a coconut taste test.  A lot of us had never tried coconut before.  Ms. Crawford cracked it open for us by hammering it with a block.  We were amazed by her coconut cracking skills!  :)

Look at those shocked faces!  Haha!

Everyone got a piece and we all took a bite at the same  time.

Then made a "Do you like coconut?" graph.

We found out that 15 of us liked it and 6 did not.  So more people liked the coconut.

We had a lot of fun with "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" this week!  We also learned four more letters: Nn, Oo, Pp, and Qq.

On Monday, we learned about the letter Nn and made Nine Noodle Necklaces!

On Tuesday we learned about the letter Oo and made an owl named Ollie.  On Wednesday we learned about the letter Pp and added "Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater" to our nursery rhyme books.  And on Thursday, we learned about the letter Qq.  We learned that the letter Qq and Uu are married.  When you see Qq, you always see Uu.  When I told them this, I got a lot of "Eww! Gross!" :)  We also made a class quilt.  When it is all put together, I will post a picture.

We had a lot of fun this week!  Next week our theme will be "Brown Bear", the book by Eric Carle, and we will begin our unit on patterns.  Have a great holiday weekend!
