Fire Station Field Trip

October is Fire Safety Month, so we went on a field trip to the big fire station downtown!  We learned a lot about firefighters and all that they do!  Check out some pictures from our trip below.

Mrs. Studebaker volunteered to try on a fireman's suit to see how heavy it is.

We all got to give the fireman a high five!

We took a tour around the different fire trucks.

We even got to go inside!

Then we got to go inside the fire station to see what the firefighters do when they are not putting out fires.

The best part of all was getting to see them go down the pole!

For some of us, this was our first time on a school bus!  How exciting!

We had a fantastic time on our fire station field trip!

Fall Fun!

Here are a few fun fall activities that we did!  We had an apple taste test.  We tasted red, yellow, and green apples and chose our favorite.

Then we created an Apple Pie Graph to see which kind of apple was the most popular.  Surprisingly yellow apples won!  That had never happened before!  :)

We also talked about the parts of an apple and made this little craftivity.  Don't you just love their inventive spelling?!? Precious!

We made and tasted applesauce!  Yum!

We read "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves" and worked on sequencing the events in the story.

We did some fun pumpkin investigations.  We came up with words to describe our pumpkin.

We did some pumpkin estimating.  We estimated how much it weighed, how big around it was, and how many seeds it had.

After recording our estimations, we opened our pumpkin up!

After we explored the inside of our pumpkin, we came up with words to describe it.

After we scooped out all the seeds, we voted on what kind of face we wanted it to have and we drew in on.  I carved it later that afternoon and forgot to get a picture of it!  Oops!

To celebrate the end of our fall unit, our room moms organized some fun fall stations!  Thank you to everyone who helped out!  Check out some pictures below!  :)

Our Five Senses

One of my New Year's resolutions this year is to update our class blog more!  I am going start off by catching you all up on what we were up to this quarter.  We did a big unit on our 5 Senses.  It was so much fun!  I got the lessons and activities from Kindergarten-Kindergarten.com's 5 Senses unit.  You can find it here on Teachers Pay Teachers!

We did so many fun things during this unit but unfortunately I forgot to take pictures!  Here is one of our culminating activities we did after learning about sense of smell.  We learned that our nose smells things and sends the information to our brain so that our brain can make decisions.  This was true of all of our five senses.  We talked about how our senses help keep us safe.  To test our sense of smell, we made some scratch and sniff art!  It was so much fun!  We mixed flavored gelatin with a bit of water and glue and painted the pictures with the appropriate mixture.  We let them dry overnight and the next morning, we were able to scratch and smell the pictures.  It really worked!  Check out some of our art below!

Here are a few of the anchor charts we made during our unit.
